A stunning novel in every sense: beautifully crafted, intricately researched and dealing with an emotionally heart-wrenching subject. The story opens with a small and very lost boy, and follows his life path through the extremes of human endurance, illuminating the incredible strength of the human spirit in times of adversity. Yet this is not a gruelling read, but a tale full of love and compassion between Jakob (the boy) and a huge-hearted man called Athos and all those who touch their lives and help them through their journey. As with all great characters, I would love to be able to meet them.
