What The Dog Saw

by Malcolm Gladwell

Gladwell probes the underlying psychology and consequence of a wide array of everyday human behaviour with brilliant insight. His essays are divided into three parts: “Obsessives, Pioneers, and Other Varieties of Minor Genius”, “Theories, Predictions and Diagnoses” and “Personality, Character and Intelligence” and from these three sub-headings one can perhaps predict the content of the book, but not the wit and clarity with which Gladwell discusses each subject. There’s something for everyone here: I learnt a lot from all parts, but got the most pleasure from reading part three, especially “Late Bloomers”, which is very reassuring about the curvature of my own life!
